Kidney injury molecule-1 Top: Structure of KIM-1 protein [4]. The ectodomain contains two domains, an Ig domain and mucin domain. The mucin domain is highly glycosylated with o-linked sugar chains [4]. Bottom left: Shedding of KIM-1 ectodomain. KIM-1 ectodomain is cleaved and shed in a metalloproteinase-dependent fashion [5]. Remnant peptide can be detected as a product of shedding [5]. Bottom right: Double-immunofluorescence staining of rat KIM-1 and vimentin. Contralateral and 48-hour postischemic rat kidney frozen sections were analyzed with R9 anti-rat KIM-1 polyclonal antibody.
